Box Score WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Regis University women's soccer team made their season debut facing a regional opponent in the Midwestern State University Mustangs. Although the Rangers controlled several aspects of the game, the Mustangs found the game-winner to finish on top 1-0.
How It Happened: The Rangers saw several early opportunities at the Mustangs goal with two shots and two corner kicks within the first three and a half minutes of play. As Regis continued to control offensive opportunities, 5-2 in shots in the first half, Midwestern State broke the silence in the 40
th minute to lead 1-0 at the break.
The Rangers continued to dominate through all statistical categories forcing the Mustangs goalkeeper to make four second half saves.
Rikki Fix would ultimately produce Regis' final shot attempt in the 86
th minute as RU failed to find the equalizer.
Game Notes: Midwestern State, coming off an NCAA Tournament berth last season, was receiving votes in the USC Preseason Poll. Regis and MSU matched up against one another last year in the season opener battling through 110 minutes to a double overtime 2-2 draw. The Rangers outshot the Mustangs 12-3 putting seven shots on goal. Fix led RU offensively with four shot attempts, two of which were on frame and
Sydney DeVries added three shots and two shots on goal of her own. Freshman
Julia Coombs, earning her first start as a goalkeeper, was tested just once tallying one save.
