Salt Lake City, Ut. – The last two weeks have held a grueling stretch of road games for Regis Volleyball, but an undaunted RU squad made quick work of Westminster College Saturday in Salt Lake City. The Rangers downed Westminster in three to remain perfect on the road (5-0) and in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play (6-0).
Â
How It Happened: The opening set featured two teams battling point-for-point, exchanging leads and putting 14 ties on the WC scoreboard. It wasn't until the set's final points that the scales finally tipped in Regis' favor – a
Nikki Kennedy kill gave the Rangers a 25-24 advantage, and an ensuing Griffin attack error assured the Regis win.
Â
It was a different story in the second and third sets, as the visiting Rangers flashed an offensive dominance that Westminster could neither stop nor match. En route to 25-13, 25-10 wins, Regis hitters misfired just once at the net. The result was an RU squad on cruise control – scoring points in bunches to distance themselves from the home Griffins.
Â
Match Notes:Â A potent Regis offense dictated the tale of the match. Behind an attack that amounted to 42 kills and just four errors, the Rangers controlled the match, having their way from the pins and the middle of the net. Westminster, conversely, managed a meager .167 kill clip after notching 19 errors and 37 kills on 108 tries.
Â
Kennedy,
Caitlyn Burroway and
Kelsey Green led the RU offense once again, combining for 26 kills and – impressively – one error. Kennedy also tallied five blocks in the victory, helping the Rangers win the block battle 9-2. Burroway got in on the defensive action as well, leading the back row with a match-best 17 digs.
Â
Next Up For The Rangers:Â RU will travel to Nebraska Tuesday for a match-up against MIAA opponent University of Nebraska Kearney before returning home for a pair of home weekend matches against South Dakota Mines and Black Hills State. Tuesday's match is slated for 5 pm MST.
