RU opens conference schedule with 17-point victory over CCU

Box Score LAKEWOOD, Colo. - The Regis University men's basketball team (4-2, 1-0 RMAC) opened their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) schedule with an 84-67 triumph over the Colorado Christian University Cougars (2-5, 0-1 RMAC) on Saturday night in Lakewood, Colorado.

How it Happened: The Rangers got out to a fast start, scoring seven straight points while holding the Cougars scoreless through their first-four possessions. The tides quickly changed as RU found themselves in a scoring drought for three and a half minutes. During that time, CCU scored 10 unanswered to claim a 10-7 edge with 14:41 left in the first half.

Regis was able to tie the score at 10, 16 and 29, but could not reclaim the lead until there were three minutes on the first half clock. The Cougars strung together two separate 4-0 runs to go ahead 24-17, their largest lead of the game.

With the Rangers down 29-26, senior Jarrett Brodbeck caught heat, making four-straight buckets. Freshman Toni Rocak assisted Brodbeck on a three-pointer to
give RU a 32-29 advantage. Sophomore Brian Dawson made a layup as the first half came to an end to give Regis a 37-33 halftime lead.

Brodbeck scored his 300th-career three-pointer to open the second half, fueling the Rangers throughout the rest of the game. RU went on a 7-0 run followed by an 11-0 run to create separation in the score-line. The 11-0 run featured three straight long-range buckets, one by junior Taffy Tela and two from
Brodbeck.

Regis made 10 three-pointers in the second half as they cruised to an 84-67 victory.

Game Notes: Brodbeck (9-14, 6-8 3-PT) lead all scorers with 28 points. His third made shot from three-point land marked his 300th-career three-pointer. While four
Rangers tallied double-digit points, nine tallied points on the night. Dawson (6-10, 3-6 3-PT), junior Christian Little (4-6, 1-2 3-PT), and senior Ryan Beisty (4-7, 3-4 3-PT) scored 17, 11, and 11, respectively.

RU shot an impressive 55.8 percent from the field and 55.2 percent from beyond the arch while holding the Cougars to a 49.1 shooting percentage. Little dished-out six assists.

Beisty and Tela both pulled-down six rebounds to give Regis a 29-26 edge in the rebounding department. The Rangers five offensive boards led to five points.

Beisty and junior Roberto Vercellino added two steals a piece. RU caused 14 Cougar turnovers.

Up next for the Rangers: The Rangers will host their Cross-Town rivals, MSU-Denver, on Friday, December 7 at 7 p.m.
