GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – After dropping the first game of the day, the Regis University softball team handed the nation's top-ranked Colorado Mesa University its first loss of the year.
The series finale win puts the Rangers overall record at 27-17 and conference record at 22-10.

How It Happened | Game 1: Lauren Hernandez hit a solo home run in the 4-1 loss to the Mavericks.
Hernandez hit her sixth long ball of the season in the fifth inning to put the Rangers on the board after falling behind by four runs
The Mavericks knocked in two runners on a bases-loaded single and stole home in their half of the third inning to go up 3-0. Another run came in the fourth on a double for CMU.
The Rangers posted nine hits in the loss but left nine runners on base. Ana Apodaca once again had a three-hit day for Regis and Hernandez posted a single to go along with her homer.
Regis was unable to cash in on scoring chances in the first, third and fourth innings. The Rangers left the bases loaded in the first and two runners on in both the third and fourth inning.
Logan Losh was credited with the loss and went six innings. She posted four strikeouts, walked three and allowed two earned runs.
Game Notes: Apodaca had her second three-hit game for the Rangers against No. 1 Colorado Mesa. The Rangers committed two errors in the loss. Losh recorded 10 ground outs and is now 15-7 on the season.

How It Happened | Game 2: The Rangers took advantage of miscues by the Mavericks and snapped the longest winning streak in the country with a 4-1 win.
Regis got on the board as a wild pitch allowed Losh to score from third and give RU an early lead after the second inning.
Melissa Heronema was plunked by a pitch leading off the third inning before advancing to second base on her 36th steal of the year. She would score on a double off the bat of Apodaca that found grass in center.
With a 2-0 lead in the fourth, CMU made a crucial throwing error that helped RU score two other runs. Trying to cut down the lead runner CMU did not connect on its throw to second base.
Heronema later drove in both runners with her single to left field giving Regis a 4-0 lead.
CMU did score on a throwing error, one of four the Rangers made, in the fourth inning.
Taylor Armitage tossed a four-hit gem and struck out three batters. She picked up 11th win of the year.
Game Notes: RU had just four hits in the game. Losh started as the designated player and scored twice.
Next Up For The Rangers: The Rangers will play host to Black Hills State University in their final homestand of the season. Doubleheaders are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the Regis Softball Field.
