Regis Sweeps in Regular Season Finale Over New Mexico Highlands

LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The Regis University softball team ended its regular season on a high note by sweeping the final two games of the series against New Mexico Highlands University on Sunday.

At the conclusion of the regular season the Rangers hold a 35-17 overall record and 30-10 mark in RMAC play, which earns them the No. 3 seed in the RMAC Conference Championship

How It Happened | Game 1:  Tori Brown and Jaiden Johnson each knocked in two runs and Logan Losh went the distance to give the Rangers a 5-2 victory.

Brown's solo home run was the fifth of the season and Johnson continued her dominance at the plate going 3-for-3, with two extra-base hits. Eight of the nine RU batters tallied at least one hit in the third win of the series.

Logan Losh set a new season-high with eight strikeouts to earn her 19th victory of the season for the Rangers. She allowed two earned runs, eight hits, and walked two.

The Rangers' five runs came after falling behind the Cowboys, 1-0, after three innings. Delaney McGinn tied the game with her sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.

Johnson's RBI triple to right center and Brown's RBI single in the fifth inning extended the Regis lead to 3-1. Johnson would drive in her second run with her third hit of the game in the sixth and Brown popped a lead off solo shot in the seventh.

New Mexico Highlands scored single runs in the third and the sixth innings off of Losh, who hadn't allowed a run in her three prior starts. Her scoreless streak ended after 22 ? innings.

Game Notes: Johnson's double in the third inning extended her extra base hit streak to seven games. During Losh's scoreless streak, she lowered her ERA nearly .75 points.  Ana Apodaca had two hits and Melissa Heronema stole her 42nd base of the season.

How It Happened | Game 2: The Regis offense produced three four-run innings and Taylor Armitage allowed just two hits en route to a 13-1 victory over the Cowboys in five innings.

Armitage was efficient throughout the game and her lone earned run came late in the game on a solo home run. She tossed just 52 pitches in her 15th victory of the season.

Eleven of the Rangers' 12 hits were singles and RU stole seven bases for the second time in the series and the fourth overall time this season. Lauren Hernandez and Heronema had three hits and Johnson swiped three bags in the win.

Regis scored four runs in the first inning before an out was recorded. Hernandez provided the key hit driving in two runs on her single to center. Apodaca added another run on her second hit of the game to give RU a 5-0 lead after two innings.

With a run already scored in the third inning, Macy Cox stole home and Heronema laced a ball up the middle that platted two more runs for RU.

Emily John cleared the bases with a double to right center and later scored on an NMHU error to put RU ahead, 12-0. The Cowboys would get their only run in the bottom of the fifth.

Game Notes: Johnson scored three runs, but had her hitting streak ended at nine. Cox had two stolen bases both as a pinch runner. As a team, RU is 131-for-152 (86.1 percent) in stolen base attempts this season.

Next Up For The Rangers: The Rangers will have the No. 3 seed in next weekend's RMAC Conference Championship played at No. 1 seed Colorado Mesa University. The Rangers opponent will be determined after the conclusion of conference games this weekend.
