Game Recap: Softball |

Losh Dominates Again As Regis Splits With Colorado Christian

DENVER - The Regis University softball team benefited from another solid outing from pitcher Logan Losh and Melissa Heronema etched her name in the record books in a 4-2 victory and 6-4 loss to Colorado Christian University on Sunday.

The Rangers head into a four-game series with the nation's top-ranked team with a 27-14 overall record and 21-7 RMAC mark.

How It Happened | Game 1: Pitcher Logan Losh picked up where she left off and Ana Apodaca led the Rangers offense to a 4-2 victory. The win sealed a series victory over the intown rival.

After throwing her first-career no hitter on Saturday, Losh made quick work of the Cougars and benefited from two outstanding defensive plays from Brianna Benoit and Tori Brown. She did not yield a hit to CCU until an infield single with two outs in the fourth inning.

Apodaca put the Rangers on the board in the second inning with a towering home run into a stiff wind. Later in the inning, Delaney McGinn tripled to right center to extend the Rangers lead to 2-0.

Colorado Christian narrowed the lead by scoring a run on the infield single that ended the no-hit streak at 10.2 innings for Losh.

Regis responded with Taylor Armitage providing a pinch hit RBI single in the fourth inning and Apodaca driving in her second run of the day in the fifth.

The Cougars added a run in the sixth on the only hit that Losh allowed out of the infield throughout the entire weekend. Losh pitched a perfect seventh to seal the win. She struck out six and allowed three hits.

Game Notes: In her two starts, Losh pitched 14 innings, allowing just three hits and striking out 12 batters. Apodaca went 3-for-3 and recorded her ninth multiple RBI game of the season, which leads the team. Her home run moved her into a tie for the team lead with seven.

How It Happened | Game 2: Melissa Heronema established a new school record and Regis knocked 10 hits but it was not enough for the Rangers, who were defeated 6-4 in the series finale.

Both teams traded runs to open the game in the first inning, with Brown lacing a double to right center to score Emily John.

CCU jumped back on top with a solo homer and triple that eventually gave the Cougars a 3-1 lead. Regis responded with McGinn sneaking a hard hit ground ball past the diving shortstop to tie the game at 3-3 at the end of three innings.

The Rangers allowed single runs in the next two innings, but contained any further damage with Armitage handling a line drive to end a bases loaded threat in the fourth and cutting down a runner advancing on a throw from the outfield.

Trailing by two runs, Heronema beat out an infield single to start the sixth inning for Regis. On the third pitch of Brown's at bat Heronema took off for second and slid in safely ahead of the tag. The stolen base was the 34th of the season for the senior, who broke Sharita Richmond's record from 2003.

Heronema later scored on Apodaca's pop fly single that was misplayed by the second baseman who lost the ball in the sun.

The Cougars pushed a run across in the seventh to extend their lead to 6-4 and Regis went in order to end the game.

Game Notes: Heronema is a perfect 34-for-34 in stolen base attempts this year. Losh was called upon in relief with one out in the seventh inning. Heronema, Brown and Apodaca each had two hits for the Rangers. Armitage struck out four and went 6.1 innings for Regis.

Next Up For The Rangers: Regis will travel to Grand Junction to face Colorado Mesa with doubleheaders scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. Colorado Mesa is undefeated and lead the RMAC with 24-0 record. Live stats and video will be available via RegisRangers.com
