SPEARFISH, S.D, - The Regis University men's basketball team (10-5, 7-2 RMAC) picked up their tenth win of the season with an 80-65 win over Black Hills State University (7-6, 6-3 RMAC) on Saturday night.
How It Happened: Senior
Jarrett Brodbeck scored the Rangers first six points of the game on his way to a game-high 26. The first four minutes of the game featured six lead changes, but it was junior Chirstian Little's layup that gave RU an 11-9 advantage that they never gave up.
Regis shot 56.7 percent throughout the opening half, helping them to a 43-26 halftime lead. The Rangers were able to stretch their lead with multiple runs in the first half including a 13-0 run in the closing minutes of the half.Â
Brodbeck sank his last three three-pointers of the half while sophomore
Brian Dawson added another trey to give RU a 17-point halftime advantage.Â
Regis' lead reached 20 when Brodbeck opened the second half with another shot from beyond the arc. The Rangers carried their hot shooting percentage into the
second half, shooting 4-for-5 from the field and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe through the first four minutes to maintain their 20-point advantage.Â
The Yellow Jackets cut their deficit to 12, 48-60, but RU would not let them get any closer. Freshman
Toni Rocak sparked a 10-0 Regis run with a layup assisted by Dawson. The Run gave the Rangers their largest lead of the game, 75-50, with 7:14 left to play. RU scored just five more points in the game, but their 25-point lead was enough to hold-off the Yellow Jackets. Â
Game Notes: Regis collectively shot 54.7 percent (29-of-53) from the field and 60 percent (15-of-25) from three-point land.Â
Saturday marked Brodbeck's 10
thgame of the season with 20-plus points. He dropped 26 on 9-for-16 shooting including 6-for-8 from three-point range.Â
Three other Rangers tallied double-digits. Little (6-9 2PT, 2-2 3PT) added 14 points while Beisty (5-6 2PT, 2-3 3PT) and Dawson (4-10 2pt, 3-5 3pt) added 12.Â
RU outrebounded the Yellow Jackets 33-30 as they were paced by Little with eight boards.Â
