DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University men's basketball team (8-5, 5-2 RMAC) shot 41.6 percent from the field as they ran away from the Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves (4-9, 2-5 RMAC) on Saturday night to down them by 31 points, 84-53.
How It Happened: The ThunderWolves made the first basket of the game but Regis trailed for just 13 seconds as they an 8-0 run gave them the lead indefinitely.
The Rangers held CSU-P to just eight points in the first ten minutes. During that time, RU tallied 19 points on 8-of-15 from the field. The ThunderWolves went on a 5-0 run late in the half to pull within two, 27-25, but Regis closed the half with an 18-0 run of their own, claiming a 45-25 halftime advantage.
The Rangers shot 54.3 percent from the field to help them to a 20-point halftime advantage.
RU played sound defense in the second half to keep the ThunderWolves from creating any type of momentum. Regis forced eight turnovers in the second half alone and added four points from the CSU-P miscues.
The Rangers stretched their lead as the game went on and ended up winning by 31, their largest lead of the game.
Game Notes: Brodbeck scored 21 points on 5-of-14 shooting and junior
Christian Little added 19 on 9-of-13 shooting.
Junior
Roberto Vercellino tallied a double-double with 14 rebounds and 10 points. He led RU to 59 total rebounds compared to just 27 for the ThunderWolves. Regis grabbed 27 offensive boards to match the ThunderWolves total.
