DENVER, Colo. – The top-seeded Regis University volleyball team took down the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs Mountain Lions, 3-1, in the opening round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Tournament.
How It Happened: Despite having their streak of consecutive set wins come to an end at 40, Regis advanced to the RMAC Tournament Semifinals with their 16
th win in a row.
The Rangers made quick work of the Mountain Lions in the first two sets with 25-17 and 25-19 set wins, but it was the third set that saw RU go down for the first time since their match against New Mexico Highlands University on October 5.
The third set was the only set in which Regis was outhit by UCCS (.238 - .206) and it showed at the end of the set when the Mountain Lions clawed their way back into the match, eventually taking the 26-24 win with back-to-back points at the end of the set.
The fourth set was much more characteristic of the Rangers we have seen of late. They hit .519, their highest of the match, and only committed two errors which led to a 25-16 blowout win in the last set. With the win, RU captured the right to serve as the host for the remainder of the RMAC Tournament which will continue on Friday and Saturday.
