PORTLAND, Ore. – In the second game of the Oxford Suites Portland Classic in Portland, Oregon, the Regis University men's basketball team (3-1) were defeated by the Western Oregon University Wolves (3-0) 90-69 on Saturday evening.
How It Happened: Shots from beyond the arc were the story of tonight's game. Western Oregon just could not miss a shot from three-point land, knocking down 15 of their 26 attempts for a 57.7 percent clip. Half of their points (45) came by way of the three-ball, as they combined to shoot 62.3 percent from the field.
Regis kept it close for a large portion of the game, but when a team makes 12 more three-pointers than another, it is hard to make up that difference from inside the arc. The Rangers did not have a terrible night shooting the ball, they just ran up against a team that was on fire from all over the court. RU held a 38-37 lead at halftime, but the Wolves took over in the second half, outscoring Regis 53-31 in the second half.
Game Notes: Rocak had a team-high 13 points (6-9 FG, 4 REB) while freshman
Will Cranston-Lown (6-13 FG, 4 AST) was the only other player to reach double-digits for the Rangers. RU shot 30-of-61 (49.2 percent) from the floor and only 3-for-12 from beyond the three-point line.
Up Next for the Rangers: The Regis University men's basketball team will return home for their home opening set of games next weekend when Minnesota State University – Mankato and Eastern New Mexico University visit the Regis Field House on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 5 p.m., respectively.
