Seniors Guide No. 9 Regis to Three-Set Win on Senior Night

DENVER, Colo. – After a 3-0 sweep of the Westminster College Griffins (5-20, 2-15 RMAC) on Saturday afternoon, the ninth-ranked Regis University volleyball team improved to 23-3 and 16-1 inside the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).

How It Happened: The streaks continue to grow for Regis as they added another win and three more sets to their winning streaks. Now at 35-straight sets, and 14 wins in a row, the team handled their business against the Griffins.

A strong opening set from the Rangers featuring a .423 attack percentage helped the home side, celebrating their seniors, take down WC 25-10 in the first set. RU followed up with a set two win by the same score, 25-10. However, the attack percentage ballooned to .636 in the second set with 15 kills in 25 attempts and only a single attack error.

The third set was another blowout and with an 11-point lead, 16-5, head coach took the time to sub out his seniors and they walked off the court to resounding appreciation from the crowd and parents in attendance. Regis triumphed in the third and final set of the night by a score of 25-11, giving the team their 11th-straight three-set win.

Game Notes: The night was dominated by the senior group that was on the court for the most of the night, but it was junior Caitlyn Burroway and redshirt-senior Kristen Hornung who led the match with nine kills apiece. Seniors Kelsey Green and Izzy Gosar each had eight kills and fellow senior Nikki Kennedy had four kills with a team-high three blocks that she shared with Burroway. Burroway narrowly missed another double-double with nine digs. Redshirt-junior Maddie Labor also had nine digs in the match. Senior setter Silvia Basso had 30 assists in the match, adding two kills and a block. Hornung and Gosar also had two blocks apiece.
