DENVER, Colo. - The Regis University men's basketball (7-3, 2-2 RMAC) team suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers () on a last second shot.
How It Happened: it was a close game for the entire 40 minutes between these two RMAC powerhouses. The lead changed hands nearly every other possession in the first part of the first half, and that continued until the Orediggers took a six-point lead into the break 40-34.
The second half went better for Regis as they outscored Mines through the final 20 minutes. It all came down to the final minute of play. With 45 seconds to go, senior Christian Little converted one of two free throw attempts to tie the game at 68 points.
On the next possession, the Orediggers missed a three-point attempt from the corner, but an offensive rebound gave them the ball with only 20 seconds left. With about three seconds on the clock, Mines' Kobi Betts drove into the lane and knocked down a one handed floater over the defense, leaving only .9 seconds left. Timeout was called, however, after a full-court pass from the Rangers, there was not enough time to catch and shoot and no shot was taken before time expired.
Game Notes: Sophomore Toni Rocak (8-12 Fag, 7-10 FT) led all players with 23 points, also pulling down a game-high 13 rebounds for a double-double. Junior Brian Dawson (7-15 FG, 8 REB) added 16 points and Little (5-11 FG, 4-8 FT) was the only other player in double figures with 14 points
Up Next for the Rangers: The Regis University men's basketball team will take on the Colorado Christian University Cougars next week on December 20 at 7 p.m. in their final game of 2019, before the season carries into the new year.
