DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University volleyball team (27-4) continues to roll on as they take down the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Lady Lions (27-7) in straight-sets during the second round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) South Central Region Championship Tournament.
How It Happened: The team that showed up on Friday night looked like a much more confident team than the team that narrowly escaped the No. 8 seeded MSU Denver Roadrunners the night before. Regis came out in the first two sets, beating
UAFS 25-17 in each set. The Rangers opened up with a .275 attack percentage in the first set and improved to .341 in the second set with 33 total kills through two sets.
The third set of the evening was the closest of the night with the Lady Lions fighting for their tournament lives. In the end, RU was just too strong for
UAFS and top-seeded Regis took the third-set 25-22 following a kill by senior
Kelsey Green and two errors from the Lady Lions.
Game Notes: For the second night in a row Green led all Regis players with 15 kills and posted a .361 attack percentage. She also had five digs and two blocks in the match. Junior Caitlyn
Burroway was stellar with 10 kills and only one error leading to a team-high .474 attack percentage.
Burroway also cashed in on another double-double with a team-high 19 digs. Senior setter
Silvia Basso was strong all night, finding her attackers all over the floor. She posted 45 assists in three sets for a 15 assists per set average. As a team, the Rangers out hit, out blocked, out dug and out played the visiting team. It was a well-earned win heading into the South Central Region Championship tomorrow evening.
Up Next for the Rangers: With the win, the Regis University volleyball team advances to the South Central Region Championship match for the second time in three seasons. Their opponent will be a familiar foe in the Colorado School of Mines
Orediggers. The Championship Match is set to take place in the Regis Field House at 5 p.m. on Saturday night.
