Auruskevicius scores career-high as Rangers collect 87-60 win

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University men's basketball team (17-7, 14-4 RMAC) took care of Western State Colorado University (3-21, 0-18 RMAC) with ease on Friday night. The Rangers scored 52 second half points on their way to an 87-60 victory.
 
Sophomore Tomas Auruskevicius led the team with a career-high 20 points. He shot 6-for-7 from three-point range and 1-for-2 from inside the arc.
 
How It Happened: After three ties and lead changes early on, RU went on an 8-0 run to take a 15-7 advantage that they never surrendered. Auruskevicius started the game with three made three-point buckets in the first nine minutes of play. His third trey gave Regis an 18-9 edge with 11:18 left in the first half.
 
Western State scored five unanswered points to bring themselves within two, 26-24, but the Rangers finished the half with three more long distance shots to take a 35-27 halftime lead.
 
The Mountaineers opened the second half with their second 5-0 run of the game to pull themselves within three, the closest they would get to tying the game or taking the lead.
 
Senior Ryan Beisty halted Western State's run with yet another made three-pointer. RU went 9-for-21 (42.9 percent) from three-point distance in the second half, stretching their lead to as many as 30, 83-53 with 4:08 to play. Regis held on to win comfortably, 87-60.
 
Game Notes: Only two players scored in double-digits, but the Rangers spread the ball around, allowing nine different players to find the hoop. They shot 49.2 percent from the field and 41 percent from beyond the arc.
 
Brodbeck totaled six assists, a team-high, while the team assisted 23 made baskets. RU out-rebounded the Mountaineers 37-29.
 
Up Next for the Rangers: The Regis University men's basketball team will be back in action against Colorado Mesa University tomorrow, February 16 at 5 p.m. inside Regis Field House.
