Game Recap: Volleyball |

Regis drops to No. 5 Lewis 25-17, 25-18, 25-18

DENVER, Colo. – The second day of the Colorado Premier Tournament did not treat the Regis University volleyball team (6-2) as well as the first. After losing their first matchup this morning against No. 10 ranked Concordia University – St. Paul, Regis fell to No. 5 ranked Lewis University (7-1) in straight sets.

How It Happened:Regis never really got it going in the first set with the Flyers jumping out to a big 11-3 lead to begin the game. After that, it was difficult for the Rangers to make a comeback attempt and the first set went to Lewis 25-17.

The second set was reminiscent of the first in that the Flyers came out hot with a 8-3 start. RU managed to tie the game at 15, after a 4-0 run, but Regis could only manage three more points the rest of the second set and Lewis earned a 2-0 set advantage with a 25-18 win.

In the final set of the match, the Flyers opened up a 5-2 lead, but the Rangers earned their biggest lead of the match with a 10-7 lead over Lewis. That lead quickly vanished with the Flyers scoring three-straight points. Another big run from No. 8 Lewis led to a 20-13 lead before RU notched their 14thpoint of the set. The final score of the third set was 25-18 and for the first time this season Regis fell in three-straight sets.

Game Notes:Senior Izzy Gosar led all players with seven kills (.300 H%), recording one block and five digs in the match. Junior Caitlyn Burroway handled libero duties in this game and had 10 digs along with two kills. Freshman Mara LeGrand tallied 22 assists, six digs and one kill. The team hit .109 overall, committing 14 errors in 92 total attacks.

Up Next for the Rangers: The Regis University volleyball team finished their string of tournaments to begin the season and will now enter Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play when they travel to the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs on Friday, September 20 at 7 p.m. The next night, the team will play the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers in Golden at 5 p.m.
