LAKEWOOD, Colo. – In their debut as the No. 12 ranked team in the country, the Regis University volleyball team (9-2, 3-0 RMAC) tamed the Colorado Christian University Cougars (4-7, 0-3 RMAC) 3-0 in a midweek matchup between the two local squads.
How It Happened:The teams combined for 66 points in the opening set of the night with Regis needing 34 points to finally take the set 34-32. The Rangers' defense helped finish off the lengthy set accounting for five blocks and holding the Cougars to a .016 hitting percentage.
Set two fit more into the expectations of RU who pounded the ball at a .444 clip, leading to a 25-16 win. Regis opened up the set with three-straight points, clearly riding the momentum they gained from winning the opening set in dramatic fashion. With a 14-11 lead, junior
Caitlyn Burroway went on a tear, registering three kills in a row to put the visiting side ahead 17-11 and forcing a CCU timeout. Senior
Izzy Gosar extended the lead right after the timeout with a kill of her own. Regis took a 2-0 set lead after senior

Mara LeGrand and hammered it past the Cougar defense.
Another dose of momentum helped the Rangers jump out to a 10-4 lead following a kill from redshirt-senior

Nikki Kennedy gave RU a nine-point lead at 17-8, but the lead would grow even more as Regis neared match point. Back-to-back kills from Gosar and Burroway would set up match point for the Rangers, but CCU made them wait for one more play as they earned a kill. However, before RU could even touch the ball again, the Cougars serve went straight into the net for a match-ending service error. The final set ended 25-15 in favor of the No. 12 ranked Regis University Rangers.
Game Notes: Four Regis players accounted for seven or more kills in the match. Burroway had her best match of the season as she led all players in the match with 14 kills. She also had a .344 hitting percentage which was a season-high for her. Green was next with 13 kills and only one attack error on the night, leading to a .375 attack percentage which was a season-high for her as well. Gosar raised the bar eve higher as she set a new career-high with a .750 attack percentage with nine kills and zero errors in 12 attempts. Kennedy led all players with five blocks, and she tallied seven kills as well. LeGrand, the reigning RMAC Setter of the Week had a remarkable game with 46 assists in only three sets, which is a 15.333 assists per set average, which is her highest single-game assists per set average this season. LeGrand also earned her third consecutive double-double as she finished the night with 11 digs. Junior
Sophie Griese was the leader with a career-high 23 digs in the match.
Up Next for the Rangers: No. 12 Regis will be back in action on Friday, September 27 at 5 p.m. when they welcome the Metropolitan State University of Denver Roadrunners into the Regis Fieldhouse. The next day, the Rangers will go toe-to-toe with the Eagles of Chadron State College at 3 p.m.
