No.12 Rangers are too much for Eagles in three-set sweep

DENVER, Colo. – On Saturday afternoon, No. 12 ranked Regis University volleyball team (10-3, 4-1 RMAC) got back on track with a 3-0 win over the Chadron State College Eagles (8-4, 2-2 RMAC)

How It Happened: The first and the second sets both started out with Regis scoring the first four points, allowing the Eagles to score a point, and then scoring another two points to take 6-1 leads in each set. The Rangers closed out the first set with seven-straight points to earn a 25-10 win.

The second set was a closer on the stats sheet, but RU did not put their foot down on the pedal as a variety of players saw the court. With only a one-point lead, 19-18, Regis opened up a five-point run that featured a kill and a service ace from junior Cailtlyn Burroway, blocks by sophomore Rachel Siurek and freshman Londyn Johnson, and a kill from Kelsey Green, giving the Rangers a 24-18 lead. Siurek wrapped up the set with a monster kill to give RU a two-set lead.

CSC made adjustments in the third set which kept them around for a majority of the set. The score was tied 16-16 before things started clicking for the home side again. The final dagger from Regis came when Chadron's final attack was stymied by Siurek and redshirt-sophomore Rebecca Abrahamson who combined for the match-winning block. The Rangers won set three 25-22.

Game Notes: Senior Izzy Gosar continues her hot streak of play as she once again posted an attack percentage of .600 with a team-high 11 kills that she shared with Burroway. Burroway notched her fourth double-double of the season with 10 digs in the match. Freshman setter Mara LeGrand also had a double-double with 11 assists and 13 digs. Senior setter Silvia Basso had a match-high 32 assists, seven digs and two blocks. Redshirt-senior Kristen Hornung was a beast at the net, blocking six shots on the night. As a team, RU hit .271, earning 16 kills in each set of the match.

Up Next for the Rangers: No. 12 Regis will head out on the road to take on the ThunderWolves of CSU Pueblo this Friday, October 4 at 7 p.m. followed by a match with New Mexico Highlands the following night, Saturday, October 5 at 5 p.m.
