Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Regis claims another win as they take down Westminster College 75-64 on Senior Night

DENVER, Colo. – After pulling off a remarkable upset over the conference-leader last night, the Regis University men's basketball team (16-11, 11-10 RMAC) cashed in on another big win with a 75-64 win over the Westminster College Griffins (16-11, 11-10 RMAC) on Saturday evening.

How It Happened: Regis had to battle their way through the first half after shooting only 37.1 percent from the field. The team was launching shots from deep, and they connected on seven three-pointers which helped them secure a 34-31 lead at the break.

Things started to heat up for the Rangers in the second half as they started making a lot of the shots that they could not get to fall in the first. The team's shooting percentage went up by nearly 18 percentage points to 55.6 percent in the second half. This was accompanied by another nine three-point makes, with a few coming from senior Christian Little, junior Brian Dawson and freshman Will Cranston-Lown.

RU's defense also locked down the Griffins offense as they held the visitors to only 37.9 percent shooting in the second half, after allowing them to knock down 44.4 percent of their shots in the first half. Regis obtained their largest lead of the game with 38 seconds left in the game when Little converted on two free throw attempts to put the home team ahead 75-62. The Rangers held on to win the game 75-64, moving them one step closer to earning a spot in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) postseason tournament.

Game Notes: Dawson led all players in the game with 18 points, making four shots from deep and going 7-of-13 from the field. Little followed with 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting, grabbing a team-high six boards and handing out a game-best four assists. Cranston-Lown was the other player who tallied a game-best four assists while he splashed home 4-of-7 three-point attempts and finished the night 5-10 from the field. Final shooting percentages for the teams tilted in favor of RU 45.2-41.1 on the evening. The rebounding battle was won by the visitors 38-32, but the Regis bench outscored the Westminster bench 18-11.

Up Next for the Rangers: The Regis University men's basketball team will finish out the regular season next weekend with a single road game against the Colorado Christian University Cougars on Friday, February 28 at 7 p.m. The Rangers are currently fighting for a spot in the RMAC Postseason Tournament and this game could play a major role in determining their fate.
