COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The No. 4 seeded Regis University women's soccer team (14-6-0, 10-3-0 RMAC) capped off an incredible Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) postseason run by making it all the way to the 2021 RMAC Tournament Championship game for the first time since 2012. The team faced no small task in tackling the No. 2 seeded and nationally ranked University of Colorado Colorado Springs Mountain Lions (18-3-0, 10-2-0 RMAC). After a long and intense battle, Regis fell, 1-3.
How it Happened: Regis had their first crack on-target from the red-hot freshman
Sarah Wynn in the 14th minute of play, but her shot was saved by Mountain Lion keeper Alexis Walker to prevent RU from taking the lead. Eventually in the 31st, the Mountain Lions pounced when Jadyn LeDoux got through the Ranger defensive line and received a through ball from Tarah Patterson in the RU box. LeDoux put her shot out of reach of senior keeper
Katelyn Martin to put UCCS ahead 1-0.
Following the Mountain Lion goal, junior
Audrey Teague sent off the third Regis shot in the 37th minute, but her attempt was too high. Heading into halftime, RU's defense was holding strong despite being outshot by UCCS by a margin of 3 (1) - 9 (1).
In the final 45, UCCS would widen the gap. In the 65th minute, LeDoux doubled the UCCS lead off a feed upfield from Bri Johnson. With the score locked at 2-0 in favor of UCCS, Johnson and LeDoux flipped roles as Johnson received a cross from LeDouxin Regis' defensive zone. Quick footwork from Johnson put her in a good spot to net her fifth goal of the season, widening the gap to 3-0.
RU wouldn't go down in shutout fashion though, a foul in the UCCS box allowed junior
Kelby Kuo to line up for a PK in the 85th. Kuo buried the ball in the back of the net, cementing the 1-3 score in the history books.
