DURANGO, Colo. - Head Coach
Molly Marrin of the Regis University women's basketball team (7-4,3-1 RMAC) took home her 100th win as the team bested the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks (2-9,1-4 RMAC), Friday night at the Whalen Gymnasium. The Rangers, who are tied for tenth in the DII NCAA South Central Regional rankings, nabbed their third-straight win.
How it Happened: As the opening frame began, the Skyhawks were in control as they were shooting 46 percent from the field. But, Regis stayed within striking distance and ignited on a 5-0 to close the period which allowed them to lead it, 17-16.
In the second period, RU and FLC would trade blows as both teams were equal shooting 46 percent apiece from the field. The Skyhawks were up by two scores until sophomore
Erin Fry nailed a buzzer-beating jumper to cut the deficit to 34-36 as the teams headed into the locker room.
The Rangers opened the third frame with an 8-0 run which was capped by a nice layup from junior
Sydney Speights, swinging the momentum Regis' way. FLC kept pace though and tied the game at 48-48 before the final period commenced.
RU came out of the break with energy and shot lights out from both the field and behind the arc. The Rangers went 7-14 (50%) from the field and 3-5 (60%) from the three en route to their highest shooting percentages of the night. The team raced past the Skyhawks as they cruised to a 20-10 run through the final frame, solidifying the 78-68 win.
Game Notes: Regis crashed the glass hard and outrebounded FLC by a margin of 49-34.

Josey Ryan (7-15 FG, 4-7 3-PT) led all scorers and tied her career-high with 21 points.
Graduate student
Tashika Burrell (4-12 FG, 3-6 3-PT) and Speights (5-7 FG) were on fire as they both had 11 points and combined for 13 rebounds.
Junior
Sam Deem (4-8 FG) grabbed a career-high 13 boards and added nine points in the win.
Fry (2-6 FG) snagged a season-high five assists.
Up Next for the Rangers: The Rangers will continue their road trip tomorrow when they face the Western Colorado Mountaineers (4-6,2-3 RMAC) at 4 p.m.
