DENVER - The Regis University women's soccer team (4-2-1, 1-1-0 RMAC) took on the CSU - Pueblo ThunderWolves (6-2-1, 3-1-1 RMAC) Tuesday afternoon in the Spring 2021 RMAC Women's Soccer Tournament Quarter Final. Unfortunately, things didn't go the Ranger's way as CSU - Pueblo ran away with a two goal win, ending Regis' season.
How it Happened: Taylor Potter of CSU - Pueblo took the 1-0 lead 13 minutes into the game off a deep shot. Regis attempted to respond when sophomore Allison Warta delivered RU's first attempt on goal, but it was off-target. Then a few minutes later in the 29th minute, junior Keegan Storlie had a shot on goal, but it was saved by the keeper.
In the 34th minute, the ThunderWoves added to their lead off a bullet from Cara Siegel. The half ended with Pueblo up 2-0.
In the final 45 minutes, the Rangers turned up the attack and had ten attempts on goal compared to Pueblo who had seven. However, CSU - Pueblo keeper Nicole Genis was playing well and stopped every attempt on-target.
As the final seconds ticked off the clock, Pueblo held on to their 2-0 lead and the match ended.
Games Notes: The ThunderWolves outshot Regis 18 (11) - 12 (7) through the full 90 minutes of play. Senior Julia Coombs had her hands full with a career-high nine saves on 11 attempts on-target. Warta and Storlie led the team in shots, they both had three and two on-goal.
Up Next for the Rangers: RU will head to the offseason without six of their teammates as Kalianna Crosby, Sophia Brendle, Natasha Wehner, Carly Bych, Julia Coombs and Julia Masciarelli's time at Regis University has come to an end. But, the horizon is bright for the 2021 season; eight new faces will join the team and a plethora of talent is returning.
