Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rangers roll past Cowgirls, 7-0

Kuo scores four goals

DENVER - The Regis University women's soccer team (4-2-0, 1-0-0) began Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play with a bang. The team went on an offensive explosion against the New Mexico Highlands University Cowgirls (0-3-0, 0-1-0), Friday afternoon.

It was a beautiful fall afternoon with little wind on the Regis Match Pitch as the two teams battled it out. When the dust settled, the Rangers emerged victorious.

How it Happened: It did not even take a full minute for Regis to find the back of the net. Junior Kelby Kuo, who leads the RMAC in goals, assists and points, scored after racing past the Cowgirl's defensive line to open up scoring.

Not long after in the eighth minute of play, she scored again. This time, an assist was credited to senior Hanna Wallgren. But she was not finished yet. Senior goalkeeper Katelyn Martin lofted the ball deep from Regis' 18 all the way to Kuo who retrieved the ball in NMHU territory in the 21st minute. She then sprinted past Cowgirl defenders and scored, completing her hat trick.

Later in the 25th minute, junior Audrey Teague scored a goal and the assist was credited to Kuo, making the score 4-0.

RU was cruising and did not let up. In the 37th minute, freshman Sarah Wynn got in on the fun and scored after she received a great pass from freshman Stella Straubing, giving the Rangers a 5-0 advantage.

Just before half, sophomore Isabella Woliver added another goal by getting past the Cowgirls defensive line and found a pass from Wynn, giving the Rangers a 6-0 lead.

Finally, in the 57th minute, Kuo wrapped up her outstanding day with one more goal. Senior Alyssa Barela fed Kuo a nice pass and Kuo did the rest. From there, Regis put on the brakes and held on to the clean sheet, winning 7-0.

Game Notes: Kuo's four-goal performance has not happened within the Regis women's soccer program in years. The last time it happened was Sept. 19, 2008 when Carter Cornett scored four goals at Adams State.

At home, Regis is outscoring opponents 20-2.

RU outshot NMHU 20 (11) - 11 (4). They also had five corners while the Cowgirls had none.

Kuo had five shots, four goals and one assist, bringing her point total to 20 on the season. Close behind was Teague who owned four shots (three on-target) and a goal. Junior Madison Hand had three shots while Wynn and Straubing each had two.

Martin recorded one save while her reliever, sophomore Maren Clark, had three.

Up Next For the Rangers: With conference play officially started, the Rangers will host Adams State (1-3) this Sunday at 1 p.m. to round out their conference-opening weekend.
