#25 Angelo State scores early, holds on for a 1-0 final against the Rangers

SAN ANGELO, Texas — An early goal proved to be the difference Sunday when the Regis University women's soccer team squared off against No. 25 ranked Angelo State. Unfortunately for the Rangers, another slow start proved costly as the Belles used a fast start to hold on for a 1-0 victory.

How It Happened: Angelo State (3-0-1 overall) held a 9-5 shots advantage in the first half, including a 5-0 edge in shots on goal, and were able to capitalized on the sustained pressure with what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 23rd minute.

For Regis (1-2-1 overall), the team was able to generate scoring chances, producing a total of 10 shots, but struggled to finish as only three of the 10 shots were placed on goal.

Senior forward Audrey Teague and sophomore midfielder Sarah Wynn led the Rangers with two shot attempts apiece.

In net, senior goalkeeper Katelyn Martin stopped six of the seven shots she faced.

Up Next: Regis will return home for its final two non-conference games of the season, beginning with a Friday evening contest against Cal Poly Pomona at 7 p.m. under the lights at the Regis Turf Field.

The Rangers then conclude non-conference play with a matchup against Hawaii Hilo, scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m. Monday.
