Regis women's soccer welcomes 10 newcomers in 2024 Recruiting Class

| By:
DENVER, Colo. — The Regis University women's soccer team has continued to add firepower to a 2023 squad that racked up 14 wins this past fall, announcing the addition of 10 new players as part of the 2024 recruiting class.

As part of the Rangers' continued player development strategy, one that has blossomed the past couple seasons with the team's top-two goal scorers in 2023 being sophomores or younger, all 10 of the newcomers will be true freshmen when they step on campus next fall.

"We started recruiting this class pretty hard over a year ago, and we could not be happier with the results of all that work identifying, tracking, and getting to know this amazing group of young women in the class of 2024. It's definitely tempting to use the transfer portal as a way to immediately bring experience and talent into the roster.  But this class really demonstrates our commitment to player development over time at Regis," said Regis head women's soccer coach, Jeff Frykholm. "After bringing in a really talented group of Freshmen in 2023, we were looking at this 2024 class as another opportunity to lay the foundation for the Regis Program for the next 5-10 years. Each of these players in this class fulfills a need we have identified in our roster — adding depth, experience, and quality across our forward, midfield and defensive lines, and of course in goal as well.  We feel good that we've found some true goal scorers, really talented play-makers, some fierce ball winners, and some innate leaders in the group that leave us super excited for the start of training camp next August."

The new Rangers joining the fold in 2024 include:

Emma Attwood | Freshman | Midfielder | Mililani, Hawaii

Extending the recent success of luring top-level Hawaiian players to the Regis roster, Emma joins the Rangers from the highly regarded and successful Leahi Soccer Club where she is a standout on their U18 GA team which won the 2022 Far West Regional Championship.  An exceptional athlete with the perfect blend of grace, speed, power, and grit, Emma has the ability to play numerous positions for the Rangers.  Coming from one of the top high school programs in Hawaii, Emma has twice been recognized at the state level, most recently being named the First Team Defensive Player of the Year for the Interscholastic League of Hawaii.  Her versatility will open opportunities for her to play numerous positions in wide areas for the Rangers in 2024 and beyond.

Brielle Bickham | Freshman | Center Back | Moorpark, California

Brielle Bickham comes to Regis Women's Soccer from southern California, where she is a member of the LAFC ECNL program, as well as an All-Costal Canyon League selection, 4-year standout player, and 4-year scholar-athlete award recipient for Moorpark High School.  A 5'11" center back, Brielle has guided both her club and high school teams to notable success, including a CIF Division III State Championship in California.  A member of the ECNL "Player to Watch" list, Brielle will bring tenacity, ball winning ability, and great leadership to the Regis back line in 2024.

Cristina Ciofani | Freshman | Midfielder | Oakville, Ontario, Canada

Hailing from Ontario, Canada, Cristina is a dynamic central midfield player who was ranked #26 on the FTF Canadian Top 88 player watch list for 2024.  She is a member of the Burlington Force Academy, currently the top ranked U18 team in Canada, which has numerous league and cup titles listed on its resume, including 2023 Provincial Champions.  Cristina has provided great leadership to her high school program as well, leading them to the 2022 Canadian Halton Catholic Athletic Association title.  An outstanding student, she received the 2022 Loyola Hawk Student Athlete award for exceptional academic, athletic, and service work in her community.

Paige Davis | Freshman | Forward | Leander, Texas

Paige Davis comes to Regis from Austin, Texas, where she has been a goal scoring menace for the '06 Lonestar SC GA throughout her youth career, leading her team into the USYS U17 FDL National Qualifiers.  A 5'11' striker, her qualities as a finisher have led to numerous accolades in both the club and High School environments. A four-year starter and three-time Offensive Player of the Year for Leander High School, she also is a two-time, returning Texas District 25 5A All-District First Team selection, in addition to a three time District 25 5A Academic All-District award winner.  Her physical presence, athleticism, and relentlessness in front of goal will add a new dynamic to the Regis front line in 2024.

Maggie Payne | Freshman | Goalkeeper | Overland Park, Kansas

Maggie joins the Rangers from Kansas City, where she is a standout, two-time All League selection goalkeeper for Saint Thomas Aquinas High School, the reigning, three-time Kansas 5A State Champions.  Aggressive off her line and an exceptional shot stopper, Maggie also plays for ECNL powerhouse Sporting Blue Valley, long known for producing some of the top talent to emerge out of the central United States.  Maggie will add depth and value to the goalkeeping corps for Regis, challenging the returning Ranger GK's for minutes in the fall of 2024.

Mackenzie Peterson | Freshman | Defenseman | Seattle, Washington

Mackenzie Peterson played her youth career for OL Reign Academy GA.  The Pacific Northwest product joins Regis as a lockdown defender with power and athleticism that will immediately allow her to step into the physical play of the RMAC.  After spending most of her youth career as a central midfield play-maker, however, Mackenzie is more than a hard-nosed defender; she has the ability to build effectively and creatively off the back line and into the midfield which will be a huge asset to the possession oriented style of the Rangers.  With consistency and a quiet strength in leadership, Mackenzie is poised to establish herself as a mainstay across the Regis back line in 2024.

Fernanda Rodriguez | Freshman | Forward | Vista, California

A gifted attacking player, Fernanda comes to Regis by way of San Diego Surf ECNL, the 2021 ECNL National Finalists, and currently the #8 ranked team in the country.  Long heralded as one of the top programs on the West Coast, San Diego Surf has provided the context for Fernanda to develop with and against some of the most talented players in the country.  Exceptionally comfortable on the ball, Fernanda has unique technique and soccer savvy that allows her to stress opponents with equal measures of athleticism and creativity.  She will add depth and cleverness to an already potent Regis attack that has to date scored 53 goals in the 2023 campaign.

Andie Rylance | Freshman | Midfielder | Overland Park, Kansas

Another product of Sporting Blue Valley ECNL, Andie is a relentless holding central midfielder who is equally smooth on the ball as she is fierce in defense. She has all the attributes of a true, playmaking #6: poise, comfort on the ball, vision, and defensive grit.  In addition to her remarkable club career, she has been a standout for Saint Thomas Aquinas High School, where she has led the team to three consecutive 5A State Championships, earning First Team All-League recognition, and twice being named to the Kansas All-State First Team.  With her physical presence and exceptional talent on the ball, Andie is expected to immediately bolster the back half of the Regis midfield in 2024.

Malia Salema | Freshman | Midfielder | Lakewood, Washington

Malia comes to the Rangers from the Tacoma, Washington, where she has been a standout on her Washington Premier ECNL club throughout her youth career.  She is exceptionally gifted on the ball, and has a fluidity and cleverness as an attacking center midfielder that is, simply, rare.  A 4-year starter on the varsity at Bellarmine Prep, Malia first received All-League recognition beginning in her sophomore year where she established herself (and continues) as the leading goal-scorer of the program.  Another dynamic attacker in the Rangers class of 2024, Malia is expected to add depth and quality to the top half of the Regis midfield.

Eilidh Takekawa | Freshman | Forward | Windsor, California

Eilidh Takekawa comes to Regis from the ECNL program at Santa Rosa United where she captains her team as an attacking flank player.  A standout and captain for Maria Carrillo High School, Eilidh was a First Team selection during her junior year in the CIF North Bay League, which came on the heels of Second Team recognition during her sophomore campaign.  Capable of playing anywhere on the left flank, Eilidh brings unique attacking ability, pace, and a lethal left foot to the Regis program.
