Rangers Fall in Power Pod to 16th-Ranked Mavericks

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Volleyball team took on #16 Colorado Mesa University in the final match of their Power Pod on Friday night, but lost, 0-3 (22-25, 21-25, 20-25). The game did not affect the squad's RMAC records; the Rangers fall to 11-11 (7-3 RMAC), while the Mavericks improve to 18-3 (9-1 RMAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Mavericks committed a variety of errors to start the match, including hitting into a Bryn McNair-Amelia Davis block, as Viterbo went up 4-2, but after a Halle Theis kill, CMU managed to build a 10-8 lead. Lindsey Cure recorded a pair of kills and a Braiziah Dixon assisted block to keep the set close, but after a Theis ace, Mesa went on a run to go up, 23-19. Davis had two late blocks, assisted by Cure and McNair, but the Rangers fell, 25-22.

Theis and Reagan Hickey each had early kills in the second set, and Davis posted two kills with a solo block, but Regis still trialed 8-10. Cure and Davis paced the Rangers offense, but even as McNair added a kill late, and Theis put down two straight, RU still dropped the second, 25-21.

CMU quickly built a 10-3 lead in the third set, but Davis ended the run, and Giselle Cazares aced a serve to start chipping away at the lead. Dixon earned back-to-back blocks, assisted by Cure and McNair, and after a Theis ace, a Davis kill brought the score to 14-15. Though yet again, after Davis tied the set at 17-17, and Dixon and Cure assisted for a late block, the Mavericks put together the final run for a 25-20 win.
