DENVER, Colo. - The Regis University Women's Basketball team fell at home to University of Colorado Colorado Springs Thursday night, in an RMAC matchup, 73-78. The Rangers fall to 6-8 (4-3 RMAC), while the Mountain Lions improve to 8-6 (4-3 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Regis came out with a hot start, going on a eight point run to jump out to an early 10-2 lead in the first quarter. UCCS answered back going on a 10-point run taking the lead, 14-10.
Mary Crossland stopped their momentum with a triple assisted by
Jessica Bollwahn.
Erin Fry would close the quarter with a pair of free throws, RU leads 15-14.
The Mountain Lions seized control in the second quarter, with a dominant 15-point run to surge ahead 30-15.
Fiona Snashall halted their momentum, grabbing an offensive rebound and converting it into a layup.
Athena Saragoza and Crossland would find the rim, but it wasn't enough, UCCS leads 40-21 at the half.
Bollwahn opened the third quarter with a layup for the Rangers, getting them on the board early. Saragoza found momentum for the Rangers, scoring three quick baskets to narrow the gap to 43-32. Both teams would continue trading baskets, but the Mountain Lions would nail free throws to close the quarter, UCCS up 54-44.
UCCS would jump out scoring the first two baskets, but RU answered back with a layup from Saragoza and three from Bollwahn. Crossland would hit another one from behind the arc assist Fry, 62-58 Mountain Lions. UCCS went on a relentless nine-point run, extending their lead to 72-63. Regis continued to fight back, Saragoza hitting a jumper with under a minute to go, 74-70 UCCS leads. The Mountain Lions would finish strong with two key layups to secure the win, 78-73.
GAME NOTES
Three Rangers in double digit figures Saragoza 21, Snashall 14, and Fry 12.
Snashall recorded a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds.
Serlen recorded four blocks.
UCCS's Amyah Moore Allen totaled 26 points.
Regis outshot UCCS 40.6% to 38.2% from the field and 35.0% to 29.0% from three.
