PUEBLO, Colo. - The Regis University Women's Basketball team fell on the road to Colorado State University of Pueblo on Friday night in a non-conference matchup, 72-80. The Rangers fall to 5-6 (3-1 RMAC), while the Thunderwolves improve to 9-3 (4-0 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Erin Fry put the first points on the board with a turnaround jumper.
Jessica Bollwahn and
Fiona Snashall followed, sinking back-to-back triples, putting the Rangers up 8-5. The Thunderwolves would close the half with two three-pointers, taking the lead, 15-14.
Pearle Green caught fire to start the second quarter, sinking three straight three-pointers in the first two minutes, RU leading 25-15. The Rangers continued their lead with a jumper from
Taylin Serlen and
Athena Saragoza, 29-21. Pueblo found some momentum after scoring from beyond, closing Regis's lead 31-28. Snashall would knock down two free throws, closing the half, 34-29.
To kick off the 3rd, Regis battled hard for five offensive rebounds, ultimately securing a free throw from Serlen to capitalize, 35-29. Thunderwolves would go on an 11-point run, taking the lead, 38-35. With two free throws from
Alexa Dominguez, RU trailed 52-57 headed into the fourth.
Pueblo would hit back-to-back threes to start the fourth. A jumper from
Addison Branscum and a triple from Fry would close CSUP's lead to 61-69. Regis continued to fight back, with a three from Fry and a layup by Serlen. However, the Thunderwolves would take control of the fourth, winning 80-72.
GAME NOTES
Fry led RU with 16 points and five assists, and Serlen followed with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Snashall recorded a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
CSU Pueblo outshot Regis 45.9% to 36.1% from the floor and 36.4% to 22.6% from three.
