LUBBOCK, Texas – The Regis University Men's Basketball team dropped the second game of the South Central Regional Crossover to Lubbock Christian University (Texas), who was ranked #25 in the NABC Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll, 105-70, on Sunday afternoon. The Rangers fall to 0-2 on the year, while the Chaparrals improve to 4-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers started the game with a pair of threes from Luke Soden and Matt Yost, both assisted by Gunner Walters, but the Chaps built a 17-6 lead. Walters ended the run with a three of his own, while Myles Shields threw down a dunk. The teams traded threes on four straight possessions, both of RU's coming from Logan Peoples-Flores, and he would add two points from the line. Quinn Lambert came up with a steal late in the half, but the Rangers still trailed, 29-55, going into the break.
Walters scored the first two baskets of the second for Regis, then set up a Lambert dunk. While Shields was able to score twice in the paint, and Yost went 2-2 at the line, LCU still extended their lead, 88-44. Flores-Peoples earned a steal, and converted the layup on the fast break, while a Dylan Forbord block led to a Yost three with just under five minutes left. Shields scored five late points, including converting an and-one, but the Rangers fell, 105-70.
GAME NOTES
· Shields led four Rangers in double digits with 15 points, going 7-8 from the floor
· Flores-Peoples scored 14, while Yost and Walters both had 13
· Walters dished eight assists, while Soden grabbed seven boards
· Amondo Miller, Jr. posted a game-high 23 points
· Regis grabbed 27 rebounds, and scored 32 points in the paint
