DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Women's Basketball team suffered a loss on Saturday afternoon to the Western Mountaineers, 62-53. The Rangers fall to 0-7 (0-3 RMAC) on the year, while the Mountaineers improve to 5-3 (3-1 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Western opened the game with an early 7–0 run before Emily Allison halted the momentum with a three-pointer. Caitlin Turnbow followed by scoring the next four points for Regis, tying the game at 7–7. The Mountaineers responded with a five-point run, while Kaylin Venick added a tip-in late in the quarter as the Rangers trailed 14–11 after one.
Venick opened the second quarter with a basket, and Jessica Bollwahn converted a key and-one to pull Regis within one at 16–15. Kate Gallery knocked down back-to-back three-pointers for the Rangers, but Western maintained control heading into halftime, leading 29–23 in Gunnison.
The third quarter began with a defensive battle, as neither team scored for the first four minutes until Mary Crossland broke the drought with a layup. Gallery then scored the next five points for Regis to cut the deficit to 33–30. Bollwahn added a layup and free throw, followed by two free throws from Savanna Staff, as the Rangers closed the gap to 42–41, heading into the final quarter trailing by one.
Turnbow opened the fourth-quarter scoring, with Allison adding another basket soon after. Gallery knocked down three free throws, and Venick finished a layup to give Regis a 50–48 lead. However, the Rangers went cold down the stretch, allowing the Mountaineers to close the game on an 8–0 run and secure a 62–53 victory.
GAME NOTES
Gallery led RU with 16 points, Venick followed with 11.
Bollwahn grabbed eight rebounds.
The Mountaineers were led by Ivey Schmidt with 20 points and nine rebounds.
The Rangers shot 70% from the free throw line.
