CONROE, Texas – The Regis University Softball team faced two setbacks at the D2 First Pitch Invitational on Saturday. The Rangers fell to Midwestern State University (Texas) in the early game, 5-4, then 9-1 to St. Edwards University (Texas) in the afternoon match. The Rangers are now 0-4 on the year, while the Mavericks are 1-2, and the Hilltoppers are 2-1.
GAME ONE
The Rangers started the game strong, as Natasha Ellison's sacrifice fly scored Ariana Ybarra in the top of the first, but Regis stranded three runners. the Mustangs responded with a sac fly of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie the score a 1-1. MSU took the lead in the bottom of the second, taking advantage of Rangers miscues and scoring on a wild pitch and a fielding error. An RBI double by the Mustangs pushed the score to 4-1.
Regis righted the ship in the top of the fifth with a Morgan Norris solo homerun, and after Midwestern State scored on an RBI double, Abby Larsen scored Jessica Isbell on a sacrifice fly, and Ybarra singled to bring in Mya Chacon. In the top of the seventh, two Rangers reached base, but the rally attempt fell short there, and MSU prevailed, 5-4.

GAME TWO
St. Edwards recorded a double and triple on the bottom of the first to help jump out to a 2-0 lead, then a sacrifice fly in the second to extend that lead to 3-0. The Rangers got on the board in the top of the third, as Mya Chacon stole second and Angelina Romero-Barros stole home. Isabell Porter doubles in the fourth, but no Rangers reached home. In the bottom of the fifth, five hits by the Hilltoppers and two Ranger errors scored six runs for SEU, which pushed the game to 9-1, and ended the match via run rule.
