Nationally Ranked Yellow Jackets Best Rangers

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Men's Basketball team hosted Black Hills State University (SD), who is ranked #11 in the most recent NABC Top 25 Coaches Poll, for their first home match of 2026, but lost to BHSU, 87-60. The Rangers fall to 1-10 (0-5 RMAC), while the Yellow Jackets improve to 12-1 (5-0 RMAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED

It would take over two and a half minutes for the first point of the game, a Yellow Jacket free throw, and Cooper Frith answered with a layup. BHSU would get hot with four threes, interrupted by a Dylan Forbord basket in the paint. He then set up a Matt Yost layup, but Black Hills went on another run to go up, 21-6. Out of a timeout, Regis put together a quick 7-0 run with two Gunner Walters jumpers and a Luke Soden three. Soden swatted a Black Hills layup, and while Yost and Forbord paced the offense, but the Yellow Jacket lead continued to grow. Walters hit a late layup, but BHSU beat the halftime buzzer with a three to lead, 48-21.

Soden and Frith scored to start the second half, while Yost earned a steal, but Black Hills maintained a strong lead. Walters assisted on a pair of baskets, and Frith grabbed a steal, going all the way to score on the fast break. Rifky Sedhom earned a trip to the line, while Yost produced another steal, but RU was unable to cut away at the lead.
