No. 16 Rangers triumph in regular season finale; record first undefeated RMAC schedule since 2017

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The No. 16 Regis University women's soccer team recorded history this evening as they captured their third undefeated RMAC schedule in program history with a 2-0 win over Black Hills State University at the Black Hills Power Sports Complex.

With the shutout win, the Rangers complete their regular season with a 15-2-1 (11-0-1 RMAC) record while defeating every RMAC team they played this season, except for a lone 1-1 draw against Colorado Mesa.

The last time the Rangers went undefeated in the conference portion of their regular season schedule was back in 2017 with them going 11-0-1. This feat also occurred in 2001 with the same record with these being the only times the Rangers have ever been undefeated in RMAC play since the program started back in 1989.

In addition, this marks the third year in a row that an RMAC team has gone undefeated while winning the conference with Colorado Mesa doing it last year and Colorado School of Mines doing it in 2024.

Regis had already captured the regular season title this past Friday with no other team being able to catch them in the standings, giving them this honor for the first time since 2017 as well.

The Rangers secured the undefeated mark this evening as they took down Black Hills State 2-0 while scoring both of their goals in the second half and being led by Brooke Castillo who had both a goal and an assist for three total points.

Fernanda Rodriguez scored the other goal with her improving her total to 17 on the season which is second best in all of the conference.

Castillo scored in the 64th minute on a close range shot that snuck by the goalkeeper after she was fed a beautiful pass up field past three Yellow Jacket defenders by Paula Igual.

Igual's assist was her eighth of the season, which also ranks highly in the conference as it now ties for most in the RMAC.

Following the game-winning goal from Castillo, she then found Rodriguez in the 74th minute on a cross pass to which Rodriguez laced into the bottom left corner and past a diving goalkeeper.

The Rangers held the Yellow Jackets to just four shots the final 16 minutes to follow as they secured their 11th shutout on the season.

Despite the two-goal difference, Regis was vastly outshot in the game with BHSU owning a large 23-7 advantage and having 11 of those shots be on goal.

Maggie Payne saved every one of those attempts though as she matched her season high in saves with 11 on the night to finish the regular season with 83 and lead the RMAC.

Regis ends the regular season with the No. 1 ranked defense in the conference only giving up nine total goals to this point while also ranking as the No. 3 offense with 39.
