Rangers Rally Falls Short in RMAC Battle with UCCS

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Men's Basketball team faced the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in an RMAC matchup, falling 85–74. The Rangers drop to 2-22 overall (1-17 RMAC), while the Mountain Lions improve to 15-11 (10-8 RMAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED

Cooper Frith opened the scoring for Regis with a layup, followed by a jumper from Gunner Walters. Walters later connected from beyond the arc, while Frith added a driving layup and Luke Soden knocked down a three-pointer to keep the Rangers within striking distance. Despite the early offensive rhythm, UCCS held an 18–14 lead midway through the half. Dylan Forbord converted a pair of free throws, and Logan Flores-Peoples finished a layup off a pass from Nick Marabito. Regis continued to attack the paint with layups from Soden and Marabito, and Walters capitalized on a UCCS turnover with a transition bucket. Marabito closed the half strong, scoring the final six points for the Rangers, but Regis trailed 36–32 at the break.

Frith opened the second half with a three-pointer, while Walters added a layup, and Soden converted an and-one opportunity to cut the deficit to 46–44. Walters tied the game with another layup, and Marabito gave Regis its first lead of the half with a jumper. Soden and Walters then hit back-to-back three-pointers to keep the Rangers within one, 59–58. UCCS responded with a 7–0 run to regain control, but Walters stopped the momentum with two free throws. Frith added a jumper to pull Regis within three, 73–70, late in the game. However, the Mountain Lions closed the contest on a strong run to secure the 85–74 victory.
