DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University women's soccer team opened up conference play this evening as they blanked the Adams State University Grizzlies 2-0 at the Regis Turf Fields.
The Rangers improve their win streak to three with the victory with this also being the third straight shutout the team has posted.
Regis is now 1-0 in RMAC play while improving to 5-2 overall. They hand Adams State their second loss in a row with the Grizzlies moving to 4-2-1 (0-1 RMAC). Both schools were just two of four total RMAC programs to record four wins in nonconference play as well with Regis now having the most wins in the conference so far.
The Rangers' outshot the Grizzlies 15-11 in the game while only allowing two shots on goal, both which were saved by Maggie Payne who recorded her first solo shutout.
In addition to Payne's and the defense's efforts, the Rangers were led offensively by Fernanda Rodriguez once again who scored both goals on offense with one coming in each half.
She scored her first of the two goals in the 21st minute on a chip shot from close range with the ball going over the goalkeeper's head to the top right corner of the net.
Paula Igual earned the assist on that score with Igual now having an assist in three straight games and owning a team-leading three.
Rodriguez tallied her final goal of the night in the 86th minute after a red card on the Grizzlies led to a free kick opportunity just outside of the penalty box.
The Grizzlies were assessed the red card after the goalkeeper left the box to make a stop on a scoring opportunity.
Rodriguez's ensuing goal was then as low dribbler to the bottom left corner of the net on the reserve goalkeeper with it bouncing off her hands.
Rodriguez now has scored a staggering seven goals in the last three games to lead the team while also boosting all the way up to second most in the RMAC.
Overall, the Rangers are now averaging two goals per game this season while limiting opponents to just .71 goals.
In addition, many faces saw action tonight with 21 players seeing time on the pitch.
