Rangers shoot down Cowgirls in seven-goal victory

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University women's soccer team scored early and often this afternoon as they dominantly took down New Mexico Highlands University 8-1, at the Regis Turf Fields.

The Rangers now sit at 6-2 overall this season while staying perfect in RMAC play through two games with a 2-0 record. In addition, they now move their win streak to four while tying for the most goals scored in the conference.

New Mexico Highlands falls to 0-6-1 (0-2 RMAC) with the loss while still searching for their first win of the year.

The Rangers' eight goals tied for eighth most in program history with it also being the most goals they've scored against an opponent since 2023 when they did so against New Mexico Highlands as well.

Five different players were responsible for the team's onslaught this afternoon with Paula Igual leading the way recording a hat trick.

She is now the second Ranger to own a hat trick this season with the Regis offense now averaging a staggering 2.75 goals per game and owning 58 total points.

Joining Igual in the scoring column were the group of Addysen Gasser, Aaliah Barwick, Fernanda Rodriguez and Renata Laracilla with each of them having one goal apiece. The others of Emma Attwood, Malia Salema, Brooke Castillo and Quinn Quinabo all had assists as well.

The final eighth score for the Rangers came via own-goal with the Cowgirls deflecting the ball into their own net.

Regis scored four times in the first half and four times in the second half with Igual having the first two goals of the game in just the fourth and fifth minutes to give her team the early lead.

Gasser was the next to find the net in the 16th minute with the final fourth goal of the first half coming from the Cowgirl defense trying to boot away a ball in the penalty area and instead finding their own net in the 29th minute.

Needing not much time in the second half to start the scoring frenzy again, Barwick scored the team's fifth goal in the 48th minute with her then being followed just two minutes later by Rodriguez in the 50th minute.

Igual improved her brace to the hat trick in the 66th minute for the team's seventh goal but saw the shutout sadly come to end as the Cowgirls found their lone score come soon after in the 68th minute.

Larracilla capped off the game with a final eighth goal in the 85th minute to put the Cowgirls on ice and solidify the win in dominant fashion.

Overall, the Rangers recorded a season-high 37 shots in the game with 19 of them being on goal. They limited the Cowgirls to just 13 shots against them with seven of them on goal.

Three goalkeepers all saw time for the Rangers as well with Maggie Payne, Helen Stegner and Sierra Rosetta recording two saves apiece. Rosetta's appearance was also her season debut for the team.

26 players all saw time for the Rangers with every single player recording double digit minutes.
