Hall of Fame Class of 2006
Corinne Deters Veltien, Women’s Basketball (1989-93)
Deters played from 1989-93 and ranks in the top five of 11 different career statistical categories. She ranks second in all-time rebounds (957), and games started (109). She ranks third in free-throws made (379), rebounding average (8.6), offensive rebounds (336), offensive rebound average (3.0), defensive rebounds (621), and defensive rebounding average (5.6). Her 1,308 career points ranks her fifth all-time in Regis history.
Ian Ferguson, Baseball (1998-00)
A 21st Round draft choice of the Kansas City Royals holds the school records for single season victories (11) & strikeouts (119). He threw in 101 innings which is second most innings pitched in one season in school history. Holds the second lowest career earned run average (ERA) in school history at 4.02. Ferguson is listed in the top five in a total of six career historical records. He was a two-time (1999, 2000) RMAC Pitcher of the Year.
Dave Fredrickson, Men’s Basketball (1975-78)
Fredrickson was the star of long-time Regis University Head Coach Lonnie Porter’s initial team in 1977-78. Fredrickson earned First Team All-RMAC two straight years, and All-America laurels following his senior campaign. In 1977-78 he averaged team-leading numbers in scoring (21.5 ppg) and rebounding (11.0) which helped the Rangers to a 20-7 record and a tie for RMAC championship. Following his graduation, Fredrickson played three seasons professionally in Europe.
Theresa “T.D.” Newton, Women’s Basketball (1982-86)
Newton played guard during her time on the women’s basketball team. She played in 112 out of a possible 113 games during her entire career. She led the team in total assists three years and had 564 career assists for a 5.03 assists per game average. Newton averaged 7.5 points and 2.8 boards per game in her career. She was a part of the first 20-win team in program history (1989-90). Newton graduated as the school’s all-time leader in assists, and ranked in the top 10 in points (845), field goals (117), and free throws (249).
Louis Stout, Men’s Basketball (1959-63)
Stout was a two-time Catholic All-America choice during a career that spanned from 1959-63. Stout was also a four-time All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference choice while playing for coach Joe B. Hall, who would later lead the University of Kentucky to a NCAA title. After graduating, Stout was heavily involved in athletic administration. He was National Chair of the Coaches Education Program (1992-94), and Chair of the AAU Sullivan Committee. He also served on the Kentucky chapter of the NFL Hall of Fame committee, while also serving as a board member of the Kentucky Sports Authority.
Bobby Wallace, Men’s Basketball (1947-51)
Wallace was a starter at the guard position. Wallace played on the famed “Buzz Boys” squads of the late 1940’s-early 1950’s, earning Helms All-America and NAIA All-America Honors. Wallace was a key member of the 1948-49 Regis squad that won a record 37 games—still a NCAA II record—en route to the National Catholic Basketball Championship.
1998 Women’s Volleyball Team
The 1998 Women’s Volleyball team is the most successful team in school history. The team went 31-4 overall, and 17-2 in RMAC play on their way to a regular season RMAC Championship. The 1998 Rangers advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament. The team bolstered three all-RMAC Players, including AVCA Player of the Year Melinda Almazan. It produced two AVCA All-Americans (Almazan, 1st team; Jeanine Dwyer 2nd team) and finished #4 in the final AVCA Top 25 poll.
