Jeff Frykholm was named the Head Women's Soccer Coach in May of 2022, becoming just the fourth head coach in Regis University women's soccer history, and enters his fourth season in 2025.
Prior to assuming the head coaching role, Frykholm served the program as an assistant coach in 2021-22, helping to guide the Rangers to a 14-win season and a top-four finish in the RMAC. The Rangers subsequently made it to the RMAC Tournament final, where after knocking off #1 seed Colorado Mesa in the semifinal, they lost in the championship match at #2 seed UCCS.
In his first season guiding the Rangers as the head coach, the 2022-23 Rangers would notch 12 wins, finishing with a 9-2-1 mark in the RMAC en route to a third-place finish in the regular season standings. The Rangers again advanced all the way to the RMAC Tournament championship game, defeating UCCS by a 3-2 final in the semifinals, before falling to No. 9 ranked Colorado School of Mines.
Regis had three players earn All-Conference recognition in 2022, while junior forward Kelby Kuo was also named a Second Team All-Region selection. Academically, the Rangers had three players earn CSC Academic All-Region and, as a team, collected the program's eighth straight RMAC Brechler Award given to the team with the highest GPA for each RMAC sponsored sport.
In his second year in charge, Frykholm’s Rangers secured another 14-win season, finishing 9-2-1 in the RMAC, toppling #4 nationally ranked Colorado Mesa along the way. The team again placed third overall in the RMAC and subsequently advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament, losing to eventual RMAC champion and #4 ranked Colorado School of Mines.
Regis had a trio of players earn First Team All-Region Academic honors in 2023 (Kuo, Sophia Leone, Natalie Bunch), and had four players earn RMAC “Offensive Player of the Week” during the fall campaign (Sarah Wynn, Maddie Gardner, Bunch x2). In addition, Bunch and Gardner were All-Region selections, with Bunch earning First Team All-Region honors, while Gardner was rewarded for an outstanding Freshman season by receiving Second Team All-Region recognition.
In 2024, the Rangers continued their streak of making the RMAC Conference Tournament. Gardner improved to a First Team All-RMAC performer, while Bunch and Madison Cullinan earned All-Conference Honorable Mentions. Bunch and Gardner were also First Team RMAC All-Academic, leading 12 Rangers on the Academic Honor Roll, and six Academic All-District selections.
Frykholm joined the Regis family after spending two years on the staff of the men's program at Division I University of St. Thomas (St. Paul, MN). Frykholm’s work at Regis marks his return to Colorado, where he was heavily involved in both club and high school soccer for 20 years. He served multiple leadership roles across his club experiences, including the Executive Director, Director of Coaching, and the Director of the USSF Development Academy at FC Boulder. He has coached across a wide range of levels and ages in club soccer, and has won state championships as a club coach in multiple states.
As the head coach of the Fairview High School (Boulder, CO) boys and girls programs, Frykholm held a .794 winning percentage, notching 89 wins over six seasons, garnering two Front Range League Coach of the Year honors during that time. Regularly ranked among the top teams in the state, the Fairview program rose as high as No. 5 in national rankings (USA Today Top 25). He was also twice awarded Coach of the Year in the state of Washington in his previous high school coaching role.
Holding both the USSF "A" License and the USC "Premier" Diploma, Frykholm brings extensive knowledge and experience to Regis Women's Soccer. A former University of Colorado tenured faculty member, Frykholm also holds PhD/MS academic degrees in the disciplines of Education and Sport Psychology, and has enjoyed blending his passion for the game with his educational background and teaching experience.
A two-sport athlete in college, Frykholm played both soccer and baseball at Whitworth University, where was received multiple All-Conference awards across his career, including a First Team Academic All-American award (soccer) during his final year of eligibility. His three children all played college soccer which contributes to his well-rounded perspective (as athlete, professor, coach, parent) on the student-athlete college experience. He brings passion for developing young adults, a commitment to fostering healthy team cultures, and strong resonance with the Jesuit values and mission for higher education to Regis Women’s Soccer.
