Carl's coaching experience is extensive: 21 years of high school track and field, class 1-4 boys' and girls' soccer, and women’s high school soccer. Carl was a Class A Licensed Referee for club high school and college soccer for six years. He also taught private music lessons for six years.
A high school track standout in the early 80's, Carl won one State NorCal Track Triple Jump Title, jumping 49-2. He also long jumped 23-5 and ran the 440 yards in 53.2. Carl ran the second leg of the league champion mile relay team. He attended Chabot College and played Center-Mid for the Soccer Team. Post Chabot, Carl graduated with a degree in Music and minor Transportation from Cal State Hayward.
He played lead trumpet and flugelhorn since 4th grade, playing with Ella Fitzgerald, Sara Vaughn, Al Jerro, Melissa Manchester, and Rich Little at the Sands Hotel in Reno and Las Vegas as well as Circle Star Theatre in Redwood City. He was an understudy to Greg Adams of 'Tower of Power' and Fred Campbell.
Continuing his education, Carl graduated from California Contracting School in 1992. He worked as a general roofing sheetmetal contractor from 1992-2010 before retiring in 2014 from FedEx as Trucking Manager in Oakland.
He has been married to Terry Bowersmith since 07/20/85. They owned East Bay Wholesale Floral, in which Terry ran and employed all of their kids growing up. Carl has four children and five granddaughters including Spencer Bowersmith, the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Regis University. His hobbies include fishing, woodworking, and comic collecting: over 15,000 comics (yes he's read them all)
