Dr. Jim Seibert is entering his 16th year serving as Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR). Seibert began his duties in fall 2010.
As FAR, Seibert’s primary responsibility is to serve as a liaison between the faculty of Regis University and the Regis Athletics Department. This includes managing the absence policies of the various colleges, sponsoring the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, serving on the Compliance Committee, fostering communication between instructors and coaches, nominating student-athletes for NCAA scholarships and awards, and acting as an all-around Regis Athletics super-fan. “It has been my honor to get to know and to serve the many amazing student-athletes of Regis University,” said Seibert.
Seibert has attended an NCAA Leadership Academy, a Regional Rules Seminar, and a FAR Association meeting. He also serves on the RMAC officiating committee and regularly attends all RMAC FAR meetings.
In addition to his FAR responsibilities, Seibert has been a professor in the Department of Mathematics at Regis since 2001 and was promoted to Full Professor starting fall 2014. He served as Chair of the Mathematics Department from fall 2008 through spring 2014 and Chair of the Department of Physics and Computational Science from fall 2010 through spring 2014. Seibert’s academic research area is algebraic geometry, with special interest in its application to cryptography.
With his close proximity to campus, Seibert loves to ride bikes, commuting to work, riding bike paths around Denver, and exploring trails on his mountain bike. He also plays guitar and sings in a folk/funk acoustic combo, but the only way to see him play is around a campfire. Seibert is a huge fan of sci-fi and fantasy and he is, in the words of his hero Douglas Adams, a real hoopy frood.
