Monica Cherry (Forney, Texas) joins the Regis University softball coaching staff as the assistant softball coach in 2019. Cherry earned her Master’s Degree with a Sport and Recreation Management specialization from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas in 2019.
In May of 2018, Cherry graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Sport and Recreation Management from Texas A&M – Commerce where she was a four-year member of the softball team. Monica played three different positions: shortstop, second base and third base during her career. During her time with the Lions, she was a 2015 NFCA Scholar Athlete, 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, and a 2016 Lone Star Conference All-Academic Team member.

During her senior season at Commerce, Cherry’s batting average was .310, and she had a .448 on-base percentage. She batted .373 during conference games with a .608 slugging percentage. She had 77 putouts with 42 assists, with a .967 fielding percentage. She was a part of the 2018 team that won the South Central Region I Championship and advanced to the Super Regionals.

Prior to Texas A&M-Commerce, Cherry was a pitcher and shortstop at Bishop Lynch High School where she was a four-year letter winner, a three year All-State selection, earning First Team honors in 2012 and 2014. She was the 2014 District I-5 MVP, and was a Second Team All-State selection in 2013. Additionally, she earned  First Team All-District three times, and was a two-time All-State Tournament honoree, and was the 2011 Newcomer of the Year. She helped lead Bishop Lynch to back-to-back TAPPS Regional Championships and State Semifinal appearances. During her senior year, Bishop Lynch won the TAPPS State Championship.
