Robin Wheeler is entering her second year at Regis University, her first as Deputy Athletic Director for Performance and Student Success in addition to her role as Head Athletic Trainer.
A native of Pittsburgh, Penn., Wheeler brings to Regis her 13 years of professional collegiate athletic training experience and five years’ experience serving as a member of collegiate athletics administrative teams. Most recently, she served as Director of Sports Medicine, Senior Woman Administrator, and NCAA Athletics Healthcare Administrator at Johnson & Wales University – Denver prior to her arrival at Regis. In addition to her duties in those roles, Robin also served as an adjunct professor, teaching the University’s courses for Anatomy, Exercise Physiology, Nutrition, and Biology. Robin helped lead the campus through COVID, creating the University’s athletics pandemic policies and serving on SCAC committees for writing policies at the conference level.
Prior to her time at JWU-Denver, Wheeler was the Director of Sports Medicine at Allegheny College in Pennsylvania. While there, she served as the primary athletic trainer for the football, swimming and diving, baseball, and golf teams, oversaw the care and coverage of all 21 NCAA varsity sports, served as a member of the athletics administrative team, and established Allegheny’s first weekly on-campus team physician clinic. Wheeler also aided in securing two additional sports to the varsity athletics program, secured the addition of a third assistant athletic trainer to the staff, and designed the expansion of the stadium athletic training facility.
Graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training at the University of Pittsburgh and with a Master of Science in Athletic Training from Ohio University, Wheeler also served as the NCAA Athletics Healthcare Administrator for Allegheny.
Wheeler came to Allegheny after spending four years as an assistant athletic trainer at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. While at Kenyon, Wheeler was the primary athletic trainer for men’s soccer, baseball, men’s basketball, field hockey, swimming and diving, tennis, and cross country. In addition to her role with her assigned sports, Wheeler was also responsible for several administrative duties, including serving as the primary liaison with the team physician and the school’s health center and coordinating all off-campus medical appointments and testing. Wheeler was the professor for Sports Medicine and Wellness at Kenyon and served as an assistant professor for Anatomy and Physiology.
A certified BLS, CPR, AED, and First Aid provider, Wheeler has also served as an instructor for each of those courses and was a certified and state-licensed EMT-B while in Pennsylvania.
Wheeler spent the 2012-2013 academic year as the head athletic trainer at Meigs High School in Pomeroy, OH. At Meigs, she was the lone athletic trainer responsible for coverage of 22 varsity teams and performed all administrative duties. During her time at Meigs, she also worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Ohio University, assisting with varsity and club athletic coverage, while also serving as a teaching assistant for the school’s Introduction to Athletic Training class and Orthopedic Appliances class.
Robin currently resides in Denver with her husband and three children.
