Austin, Texas - Senior Gina Morgan was awarded Capital One Academic Division II Volleyball Third Team All-America honors as voted on by the Division II sports information directors across the country. Morgan is the first honoree for the volleyball team since Melinda Almazan earned first team honors in 1998.
Morgan, the only RMAC representative, will graduate in May with one degree in chemistry and another in environmental sciences. Morgan led the Rangers on and off the court helping Regis reach three straight NCAA Tournament's including two second round appearances. Morgan helped the Rangers to a 19-10 record this year and an 84-41 (.672) in her four seasons.
"We are extremely proud of Gina," exclaims Head Coach Frank Lavrisha. "She is so self-driven in all facets of life, whether that be a student an athlete or just her personal life. We are so happy to see her get the deserved recognition for all that she does. Gina is an exceptional person, who has thrown herself 100 percent into everything she does."
Gina has been awarded numerous academic awards over the years and this year is no different. However, Morgan was also honored for her play on the court as she earned First Team All-RMAC following a stellar senior campaign. She led the Rangers with a .308 attack percentage, good for sixth in the RMAC and had a career-high 2.63 kill per set average. She also led the Rangers in total blocks with 87 for a 0.83 average. Morgan led the Rangers in hitting percentage four straight seasons and in blocks for three straight.
