Box Score Kearney, Neb.: The Regis University Ranger volleyball team will now have to wait till Sunday night to see if they made it to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years afte the Rangers took #10 Nebraska-Kearney to the brink before falling in the fifth set.
Regis (17-12) fell in the first set 25-23 after the set was tied at 20, Nebraska-Kearney (28-4) then scored five of the next eight points to take set one.
Regis responded in set two taking it 25-23 with Nebraska-Kearney blazing back to take set three 25-18. Regis never trailed in set four and took it to the Lopers by a score of 25-18. In set four the Rangers had 12 kills in 37 attempts with no errors.
That set up the deciding fifth set where the Rangers were just 3-5 on the season. Nebraska-Kearney scored the first three points and Regis couldn't recover falling in the fifth set 15-8.
Four Rangers were in double figures in kills led by freshman Christy Henzgen's 17. Sophomore Caitlin McDonnell tallied a career-high 14 kills with just three errors in 25 attempts for a .440 attack percentage. Seniors Kerry Grady and Jessica Howe, playing in perhaps their final match in a Ranger uniform contributed 12 and 11 kills respectively.
Fellow senior Erin Anderson had a nice game with eight kills with a second-best .318 attack percentage. She also had a match-high eight blocks to go along with senior Devin Eckhardt's six blocks.
Eckhardt flirted with a triple-double as she doled out 47 assists and had 14 digs. Freshman Sage Martinson had a team-high 22 digs, while Henzgen had 15 and senior Sarah Keiter picked up 10.
Nebraska-Kearney now takes on defending champion Metro State for the RMAC Championship on Saturday evening in Kearney.
