Box Score Denver, Colo.: The Regis University volleyball team has lost four of their last five matches after they fell to #14 Metro State tonight in four sets, 21-25, 20-25, 25-23, 22-25 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action. Regis got a match-high 22 kills from fresman Christy Henzgen but it wasn't enough as Regis fell to Metro State for the first time this season.
Regis (15-11, 10-7 RMAC) trailed 20-19 in the third set, before going on a 6-3 run to take the set 25-23. It marked only the fourth time all season that the Rangers were the second team to 20 points in a set and got a victory in 33 sets.
Regis had fewer errors 22 to 24 than Metro State (21-5, 15-2 RMAC) but the Roadrunners had 13 mor kills than Regis and hit .264 to .190 for Regis. It is only the fourth time in the last 11 matches that the Rangers have allowed their opponent to hit better than .200.
It is the fourth match this season that Henzgen has had 20-or-more kills, doing it on 63 attempts. Senior Kerry Grady was next with 10 kills, while fellow senior Jessica Howe hit .667 for the match putting down eight kills on just 12 attempts and no errors.
Senior Devin Eckhardt had a match-high 45 assists, three blocks and four digs, while freshman Sage Martinson tallied a team-high 13 digs. Junior Lyz Kann had seven blocks including one solo, while Henzgen had eight digs and senior Sarah Keiter and sophomore Jordan Hughes each collected seven.
Regis will finish up their regular season when they travel to take on Colorado Christian on Friday night in Lakewood, Colo. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
