Box Score Six separate Rangers scored against the Cougars of Colorado Christian University today to guarantee the RMAC Conference win. The men's soccer team scored five goals in the first half alone to start the day, and one in the second to finish it.
"It was a good performance by everyone today," commented Assistant Coach Lee Ibrahim. "We went deep into our bench and every single person saw quality minutes."
"Everyone played well. We came out from the start and got an early goal that put Colorado Christian back on their heels," he finished. "We were able to put the game away pretty early as we needed to."
Sophomore midfielder Ben Fredrickson scored first for the Rangers in the ninth minute of the match. Freshman midfielder Logan Miller passed the ball to Fredrickson at the top of the 18 yard box. Fredrickson then sent the ball into the back of the net.
In the 17th minute, the Ranger men scored again by the foot of freshman forward Martin Maybin. The Cougar keeper was drawn out of the goal, eventually giving Maybin an open shot that stayed true.
Shortly after Maybin's goal, he was taken down in the box for a penalty kick. Miller converted the penalty kick that brought the Rangers up 3-0 in the 23rd minute.
In the 29th minute, junior midfielder Stephen Reed blasted a free kick pass the Cougar keeper and into the back of the net.
"We came out strong; the boys played well and stayed sharp," commented Reed. "It was a great team effort where everyone kept focus really well."
Gary McMeekin earned himself a goal in the 38th minute off a corner kick. This goal would be the last in the first half for the Rangers, but not for the rest of the match.
In the 84th minute of play, freshman midfielder Robbie McElroy stepped up for the goal opportunity that would bring the Ranger men up 6-0. This result would finish the game and bring their overall record to 12-3-1 and their RMAC Conference record to 9-3-1. This was the tenth shutout of the season for the Rangers.
The men will take on Colorado Mesa at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 30th in Grand Junction, Colo.
