#22 Rangers Fall in Four Sets to Colorado Mines

Denver, Colo.: After a few long weeks of playing on the road, the 22nd-ranked Rangers returned to the Regis University field house tonight to take on the Orediggers of the Colorado School of Mines. However, a strong start in the first set for the Rangers proved to not be enough to pull out the match win.

The Rangers took a 14-7 lead against CSM in the first set with a series of tough serves and three kills by senior, Kyndell Highland. Efficient blocking by sophomore, Sage Martinson, against the Oredigger outside hitters also gave the Rangers the fire they needed to push through the first set. The Orediggers only came to within two points, bringing the set to 22-20, the Rangers were able to rally together and pull out a 25-20 win.

The Rangers win streak did not last very long as CSM took an early 9-4 lead against the Rangers in the second set. Freshman middle blocker, Sam Johnson, contributed three kills in order for the Orediggers to take the early lead. The Rangers tied up the score at 18-18, but were unable to pull out the second set with a loss 25-22 loss.

CSM took an easy third set from the Rangers with a 25-14 win. A kill by freshman, Jessica Wojcik allowed the Rangers to take an early 8-5 lead in the fourth set of the match. CSM sophomore, Melanie Wannamaker, put down a kill that allowed the Orediggers to rally to a 16-11 lead. The Rangers fell to the Orediggers 25-20 in the fourth set of the match.

Kill leaders for the Rangers were Kyndell Highland with 13 kills, a .400 hitting percentage, and junior Caitlin McDonnell ended the match with 10 kills. Wannamaker hit a match-high 15 kills for the Orediggers with junior, Jackie Stabell raking in 13 kills.

Senior libero, Cassidee Young contributed 15 digs for the Rangers as sophomore libero, Hannah Margheim matched Young's 15 digs for the match for Colorado Mines.

Regis returns to action on Saturday evening as they host UC-Colorado Springs at 5:00 p.m.
