Denver, Colo.: The Regis baseball team fell twice today to Montana State Billings 18-4 and a heartbreaker, 8-7, in the nightcap.

MSU-Billings (5-3) scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back en route to the 18-4 victory.  Regis (1-3) scored two runs in the bottom of the first but only scored two runs the next eight innings.  

Freshman Steven Brault went four innings for Regis allowing just two earned runs but was saddled with the loss.

Junior Alex Haag went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while freshman Jon Shoutta and sophomore Bob Terry each collected two hits.

In game two, the Rangers fell behind 5-0 after the first two innings with starter senior Andrew Scheid being chased after one inning and three batters in the second inning.  The Rangers clawed back with a five-run third inning to tie the game.

The Rangers had four doubles and a triple in the third inning but two innings later the Yellowjackets tacked on three more to take an 8-5 lead.  

Regis then tried one last effort to snatch a win from the jaws of defeat in the bottom of the seventh.  Pinch hitter Tim Lewis singled to third base and then Brault drove in Lewis on a triple to right center.  Brault cut the lead to 8-7 two batters later when he scored on a single by senior Zach Blakeley through the left side.

The Rangers rally ended there when the final two batters struck out.

The two freshman, Brault and Shoutta, led the team with two hits apiece.  

Regis will have a weekend off before heading down to Las Vegas, N.M. to take on New Mexico Highlands in the opening weekend of RMAC action.
