Volleyball Improves to 4-0 Following Two Easy Wins at St. Mary's Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

San Antonio, Texas: If the early season is any indication of how well the 2011 Regis University women's volleyball team will play then things are looking real positive following the Rangers straight set victories over Pace and Illinois-Springfield.

Regis (4-0) took care of Pace by scores of 18-14-10 with the Regis defense and balanced offensive attack coming through once again.  Pace (0-3) hit just .009 with 24 kills and 23 errors in 106 attempts.

The Rangers had nine team blocks and had 54 kills while hitting .313 themselves.  Junior Caitlin McDonnell hit a blistering .643 (10 kills-1 error-14 attempts), with senior Kyndell Highland leading the team with 11 kills and just one error while hitting .500.

Sophomore Sage Martinson dished out 27 assists and had six digs, while senior Cassidee Young had a game-high 12 digs.  Freshman Maya Kirkeby had nine digs, while junior Makayla Higgins and sophomore Jaymee Kau each had seven.

The final game of the weekend against Illinois-Springfield was perhaps the easiest of the weekend as the Rangers held ISU to just nine points in each of the first two sets and just 10 in the third and deciding set.

Regis limited ISU (0-4) to a -.128 attack percentage on just 16 kills and 26 errors.  Regis hit an astonishing .493 with just five errors in the three sets and 39 kills on just 69 swings.

The Rangers registered 11 team blocks led by senior Lyz Kann's seven.  Kann had nine kills second most to Higgins' 12.  Higgins had a .550 attack percentage (12-1-20), while freshman Gina Morgan had seven kills on just 10 swings with no errors for a .700 attack percentage.

Martinson again led the way with 33 assists and four digs, while Young again led the team with nine digs.  The match lasted just 53 minutes and saw the Rangers register no errors in the third set, hitting at a .700 clip.

Regis returns to action tomorrow evening as they will play an exhibition match against NOVA KBM, a professional club team from Maribor, Slovenia at 5:00 p.m. at the Regis Fieldhouse.
