COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.:  Regis men's soccer volunteer assistant coach Steve Trittschuh was named head coach of the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC this week.  His head coaching debut is set to launch during the team's premiere season in 2015 as announced by the team's first local title sponsor: St. Francis Medical Center.

During his time at Regis, he helped the Rangers to their first ever NCAA Elite 8 appearance and second consecutive NCAA Sweet 16 appearance in 2013.

"Tritt has a wealth of experience and it was only a matter of time before we were going to lose him to the professional ranks" commented Regis Head Coach Tony McCall.  "His influence on our players and staff during his time with us has been immense and we wish him much success in this new challenge with the Switchbacks FC."

Trittschuh came to RU with over 14 years of playing experience at the professional level.  He played for the United States at the 1988 Olympics and 1990 World Cup and in his international career with the US earned 38 CAPS.  He had stints with Sparta Prague of the Czech 1st Division, SVV Dordrecht of the Dutch 1st Division, and Colorado Rapids and Tampa Bay Mutiny of the MLS during that time.  During his time with Sparta Prague, he was the first American to play in the European Cup.  He was also honored as being one of the Colorado Rapids Team of the Decade Member (1996-2005).

He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education from Madison University.  A standout on the pitch throughout high school in Illinois, Trittschuh earned All-American status in high school and as a result, a full ride scholarship to Southern Illinois University.  He competed in the 1988 Seoul Olympics, was a starter on the 1990 US National Team competing in the FIFA World Cup in Italy and played seven years in the MLS, having competed for an MLS Cup in 1997 with the Colorado Rapids.

Trittschuh was an assistant coach with the Colorado Rapids from 2001 to 2006 and won one MLS reserve title.  For the past several years, he has coached with the top youth clubs throughout Colorado.  The coach was elected into the Colorado Youth Soccer Hall of Fame in 2013.
