Adams St. Takes Game One Of Four From Rangers

Box Score

Alamosa, Colorado- The Regis Baseball team (4-7, 0-3) dropped game one of their four game weekend series to Adams State (4-6, 1-0) on Friday at ASU Baseball Field. The teams battled in an offensive slugfest that saw 33 total hits by the two teams.

Adams State got things going right away as they scored three runs in the first inning and five runs in the second. The runs in the second inning were thanks to a two run homerun by Dillon Bollig, followed up by a three run homerun by Drew Wells later that same inning.

The Rangers were able to get the game back within striking distance in the fifth inning by putting up a crooked number of their own. The Rangers' fifth inning surge saw seven runs come across home plate. Seven straight Rangers reached based in that inning which was capped off by a two RBI double by senior second baseman Logan Knox. Senior catcher Ty Overboe and junior shortstop Drew LaComb also added RBI singles in the inning. The Rangers fifth inning was its only real offensive threat in the game. Adams State, meanwhile, was able to score in 6 of their 8 chances on offense.

Freshman starting pitcher Noah Gotsis took the loss for Regis, as he was knocked out by ASU in the second inning after giving up seven runs.  Junior Will Waterman, Junior Jake Long and Freshman Jake Griffith all threw in relief for Regis. Jeffery Schmitt took the win for the Grizzlies, he was able to scatter seven hits and six runs over four innings of work.

LaComb who went 4-5 on the day led Regis offensively. Junior Dylan Navarro, junior Ryan Benedict, and freshman Andrew Bryniarski all collected two hits on the day. Overboe, Knox and sophomore Mike Potter each added a hit in the loss.

Regis and Adams State are back at it tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 11am.
